Trump Warns Iran: No Deal Will Mean More Strikes
US President Donald Trump has warned that Tehran has delayed too long in reaching a deal and will face consequences, as efforts continue to resume negotiations following a series of mutual military strikes between the two countries.
Writing on social media, Trump said he believed Iran was talking but not acting, and that the opportunity for a favorable deal had not been seized in time.
In an interview with Fox News, he indicated he was close to ordering further strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Tehran did not agree to a deal.
Trump's comments came as Qatari mediators traveled to Tehran to advance negotiations after consultations with Washington, according to Reuters.
The president was also responding to recent Iranian strikes on US military bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, carried out in retaliation for US attacks on Iranian targets around the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said Iran had had the opportunity to sign a deal and survive and did not rule out further strikes, saying negotiations were progressing too slowly.
