Millions of users around the world encountered problems accessing several major online services on Friday afternoon. The disruption was compounded by a partial outage at Downdetector, the service commonly used to check the availability of websites and apps.

The outages primarily affected Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and Threads. Users reported difficulties sending messages, loading content and logging into apps. Discord, the messaging platform popular with gamers and online communities, also experienced disruptions.
