Iran Questions Point of Peace Talks with US After Beirut Strike
Peace talks between Iran and the United States have suffered a new setback following an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut. Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said further talks with Washington were meaningless after the latest attack on Hezbollah positions, the Inquirer reports.
According to Ghalibaf, the strike proves that the United States either lacks the will or the ability to ensure its allies honor their commitments. He posted the statement on X as diplomats were working to finalize a framework agreement to end the conflict.
Iran has long considered the situation in Lebanon and attacks on Hezbollah to be part of a wider regional conflict.
