Poland Wants Up to 15,000 US Troops
Poland wants to increase the number of US troops stationed on its territory to between 11,000 and 15,000 and is seeking a permanent American military presence, Marcin Przydacz, head of international policy in President Karol Nawrocki’s office, told RMF FM.
Przydacz was responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement in May that an additional 5,000 troops would be deployed to Poland.
According to him, Warsaw views the move as an expansion of the current US contingent, which consists of about 10,000 troops. However, he noted that final decisions have yet to be made.
Przydacz said the Pentagon is preparing a new concept for the US military presence in Europe. As part of that reorganization, Poland wants to secure the largest possible deployment of American forces and ensure that their presence is permanent rather than rotational.
He also suggested that the number of US troops in Western Europe could be reduced, with some units redeployed to NATO’s eastern flank.
As an example of a permanent US presence, Przydacz pointed to the headquarters of the US Army’s V Corps in Poznan.
