Vance: Iran Deal Could Be Signed Friday
US Vice President JD Vance said he expects the text of a proposed agreement aimed at ending hostilities with Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz could be released this week. He added that negotiations on technical details would continue.
In an interview with CNBC, Vance said the United States wants to ensure the long-term reopening of the strategic waterway without transit fees. He noted that several key issues remain under discussion.
According to Vance, Washington and Tehran have reached a framework understanding on ending the conflict and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global trade route. However, he said a final agreement could also depend on developments in Lebanon, while discussions over Iran's nuclear program would be addressed separately at a later stage.
Vance said Iran is expected to be represented by its foreign minister and the speaker of parliament when the agreement is signed in Switzerland on Friday. He did not specify who would represent the United States.
