Washington and Tehran Plan Preliminary Accord

The United States and Iran could sign a preliminary agreement as early as Friday aimed at establishing a framework for reducing tensions across the Middle East.

According to Switzerland's Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden.

Swiss authorities said they are in close contact with Washington, Tehran, Pakistan and Qatar as preparations for the agreement continue.

Pakistan and Qatar, together with the United States and Iran, proposed Switzerland as the venue for the talks. The memorandum is intended to provide a foundation for further negotiations and define future commitments by both sides.
