Kremlin Offers Dialogue but Rejects Pressure From EU

Moscow has declared its readiness to negotiate with European countries but rejects any ultimatums. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that, given the number of unresolved issues, communication is necessary, but added that Europe must change its approach toward Russia.

Peskov criticized the notion that negotiations could be conducted from a position of strength based on Russia's alleged weakness, saying such an approach could not yield results. President Vladimir Putin has previously said he is open to contact with European governments, though he believes the initiative should come from their side.

After more than a year in which the EU relied primarily on US President Donald Trump's efforts to broker peace, there are signs of a cautious resumption of communication. The office of European Council President António Costa has confirmed recent diplomatic contacts with the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, the fighting continues. Ukraine reports successes in its campaign of drone strikes against targets deep inside Russia. According to local authorities, an eight-year-old girl was killed in one of the attacks in the Moscow region, and a large oil refinery was once again on fire. Peskov said the attacks will continue.
