Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz as Vance Expects Talks

US Vice President JD Vance said he expects to travel to Switzerland soon for talks with Iran. At the same time, reports emerged that the Iranian military command is considering closing the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.

According to the Mehr news agency, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced that it would close the strategic waterway, which is crucial for global oil supplies, to vessels. It cited alleged violations of the ceasefire by the United States and Israel as the reason.

Iran described the move as the "first step" of its response to the violation of the agreement and warned that it would take further measures if the "aggression" continued.

The report came as Vance, in an interview with Fox News, said he believed the ceasefire resulting from the 14-point agreement between Washington and Tehran would hold. He also said he had no information indicating that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed.
