Moscow Downs Dozens of Drones as Russian Strikes Kill Ukrainians
Russian authorities said on Monday that air defenses had shot down nearly 60 drones heading toward Moscow. Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports temporarily suspended operations before later reopening.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, a total of 301 drones were shot down overnight, including over Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine. The attacks came several days after Ukrainian drones again struck a Moscow oil refinery.
Ukrainian authorities, meanwhile, reported Russian attacks that killed at least five people.
In the Sumy region, a 13-year-old boy, his father and his grandmother were killed, while his mother and two other children were injured.
In Zaporizhzhia, a woman was killed and three other people were injured. In the Odesa region, a Russian ballistic missile strike killed one person and damaged an agricultural facility.
The Ukrainian Navy also reported that Russian drones struck the Turkish cargo ship Victress, which was sailing under the Panamanian flag. A 58-year-old Egyptian cook was killed and other crew members were evacuated.
Ships flying the flags of Palau and Belize were also targeted but were able to continue their voyages.
