Americans Doubt Iran Truce after War, Poll Finds
A Reuters/Ipsos poll found deep skepticism in the United States about the war with Iran and the recent truce between Washington and Tehran.
Only 24% of respondents said the conflict had been worth its cost, while 50% said it had not. Another 26% were unsure. Just 23% said the United States was now in a stronger position with Iran than before the war.
The same poll found that 63% of Americans do not expect the deal signed by President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to bring lasting peace. Only 18% said such an outcome was likely.
The findings come as Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 34%, matching the lowest level of his second term. His approval rating on the cost of living stood at 22%, near the lowest level of his presidency.
The poll also points to a difficult political landscape for Republicans ahead of the 3 November midterm elections. Among independent registered voters, 17% said they would vote for the Republican candidate in their district, compared with 34% who favored the Democrat.
