Rubio Denies Secret Ukraine Deal at Alaska Summit
According to the outlet European Pravda, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a visit to Bahrain that no agreement on Ukraine was reached at the summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Anchorage last August.
He was responding to statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and adviser Yuri Ushakov, who accused Washington of betraying the so-called "spirit of Anchorage". According to Rubio, only proposals to end the war were made in Alaska, and these never developed into a binding agreement. He stressed that although Trump has worked out the details and remains ready to play a constructive role in ending the conflict, no secret pact exists.
The Kremlin uses the term "spirit of Anchorage" to promote the narrative that Trump supported its main demand: the transfer of the entire Donbas region to Moscow's control in exchange for a freeze on the front lines. Russian officials have claimed in recent days that the US has violated these commitments, with Lavrov saying that Washington is losing its role as an objective mediator.
Rubio, however, rejected these narratives and pointed out that the war is taking a toll on all of Europe, but especially on Ukraine.
