Lawyer Seeks Orban's Detention
Lorant Horvath, a lawyer representing Ukrainian money transfer companies, has filed a motion requesting the detention of four people, including former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, according to Hungarian news outlets 24.hu and Index.
The motion also names former State Secretary Orsi Farkas, former Counter-Terrorism Center Director General Janos Hajdu and former Deputy Head of Criminal Affairs at the National Tax and Customs Administration Tamas Demeter.
Horvath bases the request on information published in the media and outlines seven alleged offenses, including unlawful detention, torture and coercive interrogation. Under Hungarian law, the offenses carry prison sentences ranging from two to 12 years.
The case stems from an incident on March 5, when members of Hungary's counterterrorism unit detained employees of a Ukrainian state-owned bank. The employees were transporting cash between banks in Austria and Ukraine as part of a routine transfer.
