Ukraine Claims Russian Retreat from Kinburn Spit

Ukrainian forces say they have driven Russian troops from positions on the Kinburn Spit following heavy artillery strikes, according to the South Regional Directorate of Ukraine's Territorial Defense Forces, as cited by Ukrayinska Pravda.

The military said Russian forces were abandoning their defensive positions and evacuating surviving personnel. It also released footage showing the Ukrainian flag raised on the Spit.

However, Ukraine has not officially confirmed that its forces have established a permanent presence on the strategically important peninsula. Ukrainian troops said they hope the advance will eventually pave the way toward the occupied Crimean city of Dzhankoy.

The reported development follows weeks of Ukrainian strikes on Russian supply lines in the area. The ATESH partisan movement claimed several weeks ago that Russian logistics on the Kinburn Spit had largely collapsed under sustained Ukrainian attacks.

The Kinburn Spit is strategically significant because it is the only part of Ukraine's Mykolaiv region still under Russian occupation and is connected by land to the occupied left bank of the Kherson region.
