Lavrov Questions US Role in Ukraine Talks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called for clarification of the United States' role in the peace talks on the war in Ukraine. The dispute between Moscow and Washington centers on the interpretation of last year's meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
While US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claims that no agreement to end the war was reached during the talks, Lavrov is convinced of the opposite.
According to him, Moscow accepted the US proposals presented at the meeting by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and he refers to the so-called "spirit of Anchorage".
Lavrov also suggested that Washington's position requires further clarification. These critical remarks come at a time when peace talks are stalled and Russia is increasingly questioning Washington's role as a mediator.
While the Kremlin appreciates President Trump's efforts to resume dialogue, it also maintains that the United States cannot be completely neutral as long as it continues to supply weapons and provide technological support to Ukraine.
