Trump Warns Europe of 100% Tariffs over Digital Tax
US President Donald Trump has threatened that the United States will impose 100% tariffs on all imports from countries that apply or introduce a digital tax on US technology companies.
In a statement on social media, he said several European countries are preparing to introduce such a tax and warned that any country that adopts it will immediately face high tariffs.
According to Trump, the measure would take precedence over any trade agreement concluded with the United States, regardless of whether such an agreement has already been signed or has entered into force.
His remarks follow a dispute with France, which refuses to repeal its digital tax. President Emmanuel Macron emphasized last week that Paris will not yield to US pressure.
Since 2019, France has been collecting a 3% tax on revenue from digital services provided by large technology companies.
