Plane Crashes into Beijing Skyscraper, Killing Pilot

The pilot was killed and 13 other people were injured when a small sports plane crashed into Beijing's tallest skyscraper. None of the injured were on board the plane at the time of the accident, local authorities said.

On Friday evening, the single-engine, two-seater plane crashed into the 528m-tall CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, in Beijing's central business district. The cause of the accident is not yet known, and authorities are investigating.

According to available information, damage to the skyscraper was limited to a hole caused by two large shattered glass panels on the facade, which has already been temporarily covered.

Such an incident is unusual in Beijing, as the airspace above the Chinese capital is subject to strict restrictions.
