Parcel Bomb Injures Ukrainian Businessman in Monaco

A parcel bomb exploded in a residential building in Monaco on Monday, seriously injuring Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolayev and two other people. According to a source familiar with the investigation, Yermolayev and another adult suffered life-threatening injuries, while a 13-year-old sustained minor injuries. The explosion occurred in an apartment building near the French border. Monegasque authorities said the blast was caused by a parcel bomb.

Prosecutor Stéphane Thibault said the suspect left a bag or package in the building's lobby before fleeing. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the suspect heading toward the neighboring French town of Beausoleil. Prince Albert II described the attack as a "heinous crime" that had shocked the principality.

Minister of State Christophe Mirmand said it was likely the first attack of its kind in Monaco's history. Around 50 firefighters and 80 security personnel responded to the scene. Yermolayev, who lives in Monaco, has been on Ukraine's sanctions list since December 2023. According to media reports, Ukrainian authorities linked the sanctions to his alcohol business in Russian-occupied Crimea.
