Gunmen Kill Two Revolutionary Guards in Western Iran

Two members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were killed and two others were injured in a shooting Monday evening in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah. State media described the incident as a “terrorist” attack.

According to available information, gunmen opened fire in front of the Revolutionary Guards’ residence. Iranian authorities are investigating the circumstances of the attack and searching for the perpetrators.

Hengaw, a Norwegian organization dedicated to protecting the rights of Kurds, reported that a newly formed armed group called Xori Hiwa (Sun of Hope) claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to Hengaw, the attack targeted members of the Revolutionary Guards, whom the group accused of participating in the suppression of protests in Kurdish areas during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.

This protest movement erupted in 2022 following the death of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurdish woman, while in the custody of the morality police. She had been detained for an alleged violation of dress codes, which sparked nationwide protests.
