Molotov Attacks Hit Ruling Party Homes in Greece

Three residential buildings linked to Greece's center-right New Democracy party were targeted in Molotov cocktail attacks early Wednesday morning in Thessaloniki, northern Greece. Five people were injured, including a parliamentary candidate and her mother, who suffered burns, police said.

Shortly before 5 a.m., the perpetrators placed gas canisters in front of the three buildings and set them on fire. The first two attacks caused explosions and property damage. The third resulted in the five injuries. Two cars and two motorcycles were also damaged.

Two of the targeted buildings were home to New Democracy representatives. The third belonged to a local politician from the same party.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. Greece has a long history of bombings and arson attacks targeting politicians, though in recent years these have mostly caused only property damage.

Both the ruling New Democracy party and government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis condemned the attacks, saying the government is determined to crack down hard on such violence.
