Anthropic Has Not Discussed US Government Stake

President Donald Trump's administration and Anthropic have not discussed the US government acquiring an equity stake in the company, Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

The question arose after a Financial Times report said OpenAI had discussed the possibility of granting the US government a 5% stake.

Companies in the artificial intelligence sector are facing increasing scrutiny in Washington amid concerns about the misuse of advanced models and whether Americans will benefit from the sector's rapidly growing value.

The administration has tightened oversight of new artificial intelligence model releases, citing the risk of misuse by the military and intelligence services of China, Russia and other countries.

Trump also acknowledged last month that he is considering ways to ensure the public shares in the success of leading AI companies. Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders has proposed that large companies hand over a 50% ownership stake and board representation to the government.
