Armenian Court Rejects Complaint Filed by Pro-Russian Opposition

The Armenian Constitutional Court rejected a request by the pro-Russian opposition bloc Strong Armenia to annul the results of the June parliamentary elections, according to the state news agency Armenpress.

The ruling confirmed the election results, in which the Civil Contract party of pro-Western Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan won again. The ruling party took nearly 50% of the vote, while the opposition bloc Strong Armenia received 23.3%.

The opposition claimed the election was marred by irregularities and criticized a series of arrests prior to the vote, which it said had targeted its candidates and supporters.

International election observers noted allegations of vote-buying and other violations, but said voting had proceeded smoothly in most polling stations.
