AI Is Transforming Cosmetics and Food Production
Companies say artificial intelligence is cutting product development times from months to weeks, allowing them to respond more quickly to changing consumer demand. French cosmetics group L'Oréal said AI has enabled it to develop new products up to four times faster than before.
The technology helped the company identify promising molecules for skincare applications, which it then used to develop a collagen-infused shampoo designed to add volume to hair. AI also allows researchers to identify new combinations of active ingredients more quickly and predict their effects on skin and hair.
Other consumer goods manufacturers, including Nestlé, Haleon and Mondelez, are also expanding their use of artificial intelligence.
Mondelez has incorporated AI into the development of recipes for Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies. The technology helps create new recipes, reduce the number of test batches and optimize production costs, nutritional value and sustainability.
