Monaco Bombing Suspect Found Dead Near Kyiv

The body of 39-year-old Ukrainian national Anastasia Berezovskaya, the main suspect in last week's bombing in Monaco, has been found near Kyiv. According to the newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda, she had been shot dead.

Berezovskaya was the subject of an Interpol red notice following an arrest warrant issued by Monaco on charges of attempted murder, planting an explosive device in a public place and criminal conspiracy. According to prosecutors in Monaco, she fled on foot to France after the attack before traveling through Italy to Germany.

The target of the bombing was Vadym Yermolayev, a wealthy businessman of Ukrainian origin. He, his partner and his son were injured in the explosion. Yermolayev, who acquired Cypriot citizenship in 2019, has been under Ukrainian sanctions since 2023 over business activities in Russian-occupied Crimea.

The investigation is increasingly taking on an intelligence dimension. Ukrainian authorities have detained two male suspects in connection with the attack. One is an active-duty officer with Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR), while the other is a former police officer.

Neither the Ukrainian police nor military intelligence immediately commented on the investigation or the arrest of the intelligence officer.
