Both DNA and Video Evidence Link Robinson to Kirk Murder

A preliminary hearing is underway in Utah in the case of the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Prosecutors presented video footage that investigators said showed 23-year-old Tyler Robinson in a sniper position on the roof of a Utah Valley University building just before the shot was fired.

Robinson faces seven charges, including aggravated murder, and prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. Investigators also said DNA from Robinson and his roommate was found on a screwdriver recovered from the sniper position and on a towel wrapped around the rifle believed to be the murder weapon.

The defense has questioned the reliability of the DNA evidence and suggested that another person may have been involved.

Prosecutors say Robinson targeted Kirk because of his conservative views on sexuality and gender. In messages to his roommate, he allegedly wrote that he killed Kirk because he had “had enough of his hatred”.

The case is one of the most closely watched prosecutions linked to political violence in the US.
