Iran Strikes US Bases After New American Attacks
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday that they had carried out missile and drone attacks on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait after new overnight US strikes on Iranian targets.
According to Tehran, the targets included sites linked to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also claimed to have shot down a US MQ-9 drone.
Air raid sirens sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait, and the Kuwaiti army said its air defenses were confronting “hostile” missile and drone attacks.
The United States had earlier struck dozens of targets, including vessels belonging to the Revolutionary Guards, and revoked a license allowing Iran to sell oil. Washington said the move came in response to attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, which it blamed on Tehran.
Iran called the US strikes a violation of the ceasefire and threatened a “crushing response”. Explosions were also reported in Iranian port areas, including Kharg Island, a key hub for Iranian oil exports.
