Moldova's President Names Tofan to Form New Government
Businessman Vasile Tofan, whom the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) has nominated as a candidate for prime minister, said, according to the Moldova1 website, that he is accepting this responsibility at a critical moment for the country. On Facebook, he emphasized that Moldova must not miss this historic opportunity to become a full member of the European Union.
Tofan intends to make full use of his extensive business experience and devote all his energy to the country's development in order to help successfully sign the treaty of accession to the European Union by 2028.
His main goals are fully aligned with President Maia Sandu's vision. They focus primarily on reforming and strengthening state institutions, economic development and the overall improvement of citizens' well-being. Tofan expressed pride in being part of the pro-European team, but at the same time openly acknowledged that an exceptionally challenging period of hard work lies ahead for the new administration.
The PAS announced Tofan's nomination following the unexpected resignation of outgoing Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. Parliamentary Majority Leader Igor Grosu confirmed that the party is fully aligned with Tofan's vision for reform.
On Saturday, Tofan also met with the president, who officially tasked him with forming a government.
