Houthis Blame Saudi Arabia for Airport Attack
Iran-backed Houthi rebels accused Saudi Arabia on Monday of carrying out airstrikes on Sana'a International Airport and vowed retaliation. Houthi spokesman Yahya Sari called the attack an act of aggression that ended the current period of de-escalation. Saudi Arabia did not immediately comment.
The internationally recognized Yemeni government later claimed responsibility, saying it had struck the airport's runway to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing.
Information Minister Muammar bin Mutahar Al-Eryan also accused the Houthis of illegally detaining an International Committee of the Red Cross aircraft and its two pilots.
The government said it had exhausted diplomatic efforts to stop Iranian and Houthi airspace violations and warned that its military would respond to any hostile aircraft using all available means, adding that Tehran would bear responsibility for the consequences.
