China Rejects Graham's Russia Sanctions Proposal

China says new US sanctions targeting Russia's trading partners would do little to help end the war in Ukraine. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian was responding to a proposal by the late US Senator Lindsey Graham to impose 500% tariffs on Russia and countries that continue trading with it.

Lin said Beijing firmly opposes unilateral sanctions and the extraterritorial application of domestic laws. He argued that neither trade wars nor coercive measures would help resolve the conflict.

The spokesperson reiterated that dialogue and negotiations remain the only path to ending the war in Ukraine. He added that China's position has been consistent throughout the conflict and expressed hope that all parties would help create the conditions for peace talks.

On Monday, President Donald Trump said the United States would impose additional sanctions on Russia if no progress is made toward ending the war within 50 days. He also said he does not support the proposal to impose 500% tariffs on Russia and its trading partners.
