Trump Calls for Faster US Weapons Production

President Donald Trump will urge defense companies to accelerate weapons production and expand manufacturing capacity as the administration responds to growing security challenges. Officials say the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have depleted US weapons stockpiles and exposed weaknesses in the defense supply chain.

Trump is due to take part in the closing session of the Defense and Innovation Summit at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania. The event brings together military leaders, defense contractors, investors and technology companies. The president is also expected to announce new defense investments in Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine called on defense companies to speed up production and innovation, arguing that the military must deliver new weapons faster as the nature of warfare continues to evolve.

Trump also sees expanding weapons production as part of a broader effort to revive US manufacturing. The Pentagon is using long-term contracts to give companies greater certainty when investing in new production capacity. According to Defense Department officials, the contracts are expected to support about $20bn in private investment to expand production of Patriot missiles and other high-demand weapons.
