UAE Plans New Port to Bypass Strait of Hormuz
Port operator DP World plans to build a new port in Fujairah, on the Gulf of Oman on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates, according to the Financial Times.
The new port is intended to give ships bound for Jebel Ali, near Dubai, an alternative route that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Financial Times, activity at Jebel Ali fell 90%–95% following the closure of the strait. DP World is therefore working on a diversification plan designed to mitigate the impact of disruptions to traffic through the strategic waterway.
The project aims to strengthen the resilience of the United Arab Emirates' logistics infrastructure against further potential disruptions to shipping in the region.
