Kremlin Warns Peacekeepers Would Be Targets

On Wednesday, Russia declared that any multinational forces Western allies might send to Ukraine following a potential peace agreement would be entirely unacceptable to Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that the Kremlin would view the presence of such troops as dangerous foreign intervention and a direct security threat.

She also said that any such foreign military contingents would immediately become legitimate military targets for the Russian armed forces.

Zakharova was responding to a recent meeting in Paris of Western allies from the so-called coalition of the willing, who confirmed their intention to deploy a multinational force to Ukraine once the fighting ends, to help the country rebuild and provide it with security guarantees.

The coalition also announced planned military exercises for the coming months, intended to demonstrate the operational capability and logistical readiness of the new peacekeeping forces.
