Zelensky Appoints New Naftogaz CEO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that Sergiy Fedorenko, the current commercial director of state-owned oil and gas company Naftogaz, will become its new CEO. He replaces Sergii Koretskyi, who became prime minister as part of a restructuring of the Ukrainian government.
Fedorenko, who has many years of experience in Ukraine's energy sector, will lead the strategic enterprise for a fixed term, though Zelensky did not specify its exact duration.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Zelensky emphasized that it is crucial for the country to meet all its energy goals and prepare thoroughly for the coming winter despite ongoing Russian attacks.
Naftogaz's infrastructure is among the Russian military's primary targets. Last Friday, a gas plant in the Kharkiv region came under attack again. Zelensky praised the work of outgoing CEO Koretskyi, who successfully oversaw the protection of key facilities and ensured sufficient gas reserves in underground storage.
