New Protests in Kyiv Demand Modern Army

Another protest is scheduled to take place in Kyiv on Saturday evening in support of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and calling for the dismissal of Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander in chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Le Monde reported this on its website on Saturday.

The rally was called by activist Dmytro Koziatynskyi, who also organized previous demonstrations following personnel changes in the defense leadership.

In a call to action on social media, he accused Syrskyi of interfering in politics instead of managing the war, hindering military reforms, creating units loyal to his leadership and persecuting critical soldiers. He described Syrskyi as a representative of an outdated Soviet style of command and declared that Ukraine needs more modern armed forces.

The organizers are also calling for Fedorov to become the new defense minister. The protest is scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. local time on the square near the Ivan Franko Theater in central Kyiv.
