Tusk Welcomes Ukraine's Move to Open Volhynia Archives

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has welcomed steps taken by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at improving relations between Ukraine and Poland. He was responding to the announcement that Kyiv will strengthen cooperation with Warsaw, including on the sensitive issue of the Volhynia tragedy, according to RBC Ukraine.

Zelensky ordered the government to open the archives of the Ukrainian Security Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service, expand the issuance of permits for search and exhumation work, and increase the capacity to carry out such work.

Tusk wrote that mutual relations should be based on respect and truth, and that Poland is prepared to engage in a serious and friendly dialogue on issues that both unite and divide the two countries.

The announcement came after the Polish parliament adopted a resolution marking the anniversary of the Volhynia tragedy, to which Kyiv responded with a call for equal dialogue.
