US Strikes Iran After Jordan Attack Kills Two Soldiers
On Sunday morning, the US concluded its eighth consecutive night of attacks on Iran, after earlier reporting that two members of the US military had been killed in Jordan as a result of Iranian strikes and that another was missing.
The number of US soldiers killed since the start of the war has thus risen to 16, with more than 420 wounded.
"The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night," stated the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM later announced that the wave of attacks had been completed, with US forces striking Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities.
The Iranian news agency Mehr specified that the US carried out strikes near the city of Sirik in southern Iran, adding that no casualties or damage to infrastructure had been reported. The Tasnim news agency reported that the US military also struck locations near the border with Iraq.
The Iranian military subsequently launched drone strikes against US facilities at Al-Adiri camp, as well as against the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Iranian state television reported this early Sunday morning, citing a statement from the military.
