US Immigration Agents to Wear Body Cameras

In the wake of several fatal shootings involving officers from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the agency will require its officers to record vehicle stops with at least one body camera, US Border Patrol Chief Tom Homan said on Sunday.

"They exonerate more law enforcement than they convict, and I want officers to wear body cameras because I want the American people to see what the officers saw when they took that action", he said.

Homan's comments come after federal immigration agents fatally shot two men within six days during traffic stops in Texas and Maine earlier this month. The two shootings, which occurred in quick succession, sparked protests in Maine, Houston and Boston and raised questions about the lack of body cameras among ICE agents.

"The cameras have been purchased right now", Homan announced, adding that "they're training the trainer in deploying the cameras nationwide".
