JD Vance Becomes First Sitting VP in 156 Years to Welcome a Baby
US Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, announced the birth of their son, Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday. He is their fourth child and the first baby born to the family of a sitting US vice president in 156 years.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother”, the couple said in a joint statement.
Alec joins older siblings Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel. The couple thanked the doctors and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House medical team.
Vance has long encouraged Americans to have more children and repeatedly warned about the country’s declining birth rate. Speaking at the 2025 March for Life rally, he said: “I want more babies in the United States of America.”
The last child born to a sitting vice president was Schuyler Colfax III in 1870.
