Hungarian Prosecutors Raid Fidesz Data Center

Investigators from the Hungarian Prosecutor’s Office arrived without prior notice on Tuesday at the data center hosting the servers of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party. According to the party’s communications director, Bertalan Havasi, the investigators sought to seize the party’s communications system and databases.

Havasi told the MTI news agency that the operation was unprecedented since the fall of communism in 1990. He described it as a sign that Hungary was entering a new level of dictatorship

According to Havasi, the opposition Tisza Party was behind the operation. He claimed that after political efforts failed, Tisza had turned to legal means in an attempt to weaken Fidesz and eliminate resistance to what he described as autocratic rule.

Havasi said Fidesz would not yield to political or legal pressure and would continue to oppose what he called the opposition party’s “arbitrary actions”.
