Joshua Kerry Charged with Murder of Ann Widdecombe

Joshua Kerry, a 28-year-old man from northern England, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London charged with the murder of former British minister Ann Widdecombe. Widdecombe was found dead at her country home in southwest England on 9 July after she failed to appear for a scheduled live television interview. Concerned by her absence, her personal assistant asked the gardener to check on her.

Police believe Widdecombe was deliberately targeted, although the motive remains under investigation.

Prosecutor Kashif Malik told the court that the attack was captured on the home's security cameras. The footage allegedly shows Kerry entering through the front door while Widdecombe was eating lunch.

According to the prosecution, Kerry, wearing gloves and concealing a hammer, demanded her bank cards and identification before striking her 21 times in the head with the weapon. He then knocked her from her chair, took her wallet and left the property approximately two minutes later.

The killing of the former politician, known for her socially conservative views during her time in John Major's government and later as a member of Reform UK, has once again raised concerns about the safety of public figures in the United Kingdom.
