US Investigates Russia-Iran Link in CIA Attacks

US intelligence agencies are investigating whether Russia supplied Iran with targeting data or advanced drone technology used in attacks on CIA facilities in the Gulf states, according to four sources familiar with the investigation who spoke to Reuters.

Investigators have not yet reached any definitive conclusions. However, the high precision of the attacks, as well as the long-standing technical cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, has raised concerns.

Reuters had previously reported that Russia assisted Iran in attacks on US targets in the region. Until now, however, it was not known that US intelligence agencies were also investigating possible Russian assistance in attacks on CIA facilities.

According to sources, Iranian drones struck at least two CIA facilities, including a station at the US Embassy in Riyadh and another facility in eastern Iraq. Some officials also mention other locations that were struck, but they have not disclosed their number or location.

According to the agency's source, one Western intelligence document suggests that Russia likely participated in the selection of targets. Moscow is also said to have helped Iran improve the accuracy of its Shahed-136 drones using the Kometa-M satellite navigation system. The Kremlin has denied previous reports regarding the supply of this technology.
