Ukraine Extends Martial Law and Mobilization

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed laws extending martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine for another 90 days, through 31 October 2026, according to Unian.

This marks the twentieth extension of the emergency measures since the start of the Russian invasion. The laws were previously approved by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, with 313 lawmakers voting to extend martial law and 311 voting to continue mobilization.

The announcement also comes amid an ongoing transformation of the Ukrainian military. Regional recruitment centers have reported that both soldiers and civilians can now sign new contracts with the ministry of defense for 14 or 24 months, depending on their assignment. Soldiers are guaranteed discharge from service once their contracts expire.
