FBI, China Boost Law Enforcement Ties

Chinese Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel agreed in Beijing to strengthen law envorcement cooperation between the two countries.

The talks followed two recent repatriations of fugitives between China and the United States, despite the absence of an extradition treaty.

According to China's Public Security Ministry, the two countries should pursue constructive dialogue based on mutual respect and expand practical cooperation in tackling drug trafficking, money laundering, online fraud and a joint fugitive task force.

Patel said direct contacts with Chinese authorities had already produced results in curbing the supply of fentanyl precursors, expanding joint efforts against scam centers, investigating violent crimes against children and supporting a joint fugitive task force.

Both sides said the cooperation formed part of the agreements reached by Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
