One Killed, 17 Injured After Berlin Pride Attack

At least one person was killed and 17 others were injured after a vehicle plowed into a crowd on Saturday evening near the Berlin Pride celebrations at Tiergarten Park in central Berlin. Eight people suffered serious injuries, three of whom are in critical condition.

Police said the vehicle was abandoned after it crashed into a tree, and they launched a massive manhunt for the perpetrator or perpetrators. They later said they had identified an unnamed suspect, whom they have on file as a member of Berlin's Islamist scene, but had not yet apprehended him.

The incident interrupted one of the largest LGBTQ events in Europe, which had drawn hundreds of thousands of people. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.

Reuters reported that Germany has seen several deadly attacks in recent years in which attackers rammed vehicles into crowds.
