Dobrindt Seeks Tougher Security Laws After CSD Attack

Following the attack on the Berlin Pride event, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is seeking to fast-track several legislative measures, describing three proposals as realistic and capable of being implemented quickly.

“I have singled out these three elements because I believe that, regarding them, we can very quickly reach political decisions”, Dobrindt said. He added that he is discussing the proposals with coalition partners in the hope of moving them swiftly through the legislative process.

The measures include amendments to the Juvenile Courts Act, expanding the use of electronic ankle monitors and introducing nationwide rules on pretrial detention. Dobrindt had already endorsed the proposals on Monday, describing them as urgent in the wake of the attack.
