Rand Paul Releases Fauci's Pandemic Diaries

According to The Telegraph, newly released diary entries by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the US's former top infectious disease expert, show that as early as January 2020 he privately questioned claims that the COVID-19 outbreak originated at the seafood market in Wuhan.

In an entry dated 26 January 2020, Fauci wrote that genomic and epidemiological data indicated the first known infection in December 2019 was not linked to the market and that the market had served as an “amplifier” of transmission rather than the original source. He also wrote that the virus had likely jumped from animals to humans elsewhere.

In the months that followed, Fauci publicly argued that a natural animal-to-human spillover remained the most likely explanation for the pandemic's origin while expressing skepticism about the laboratory leak theory.

The diary entries were released by Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul ahead of Fauci's congressional testimony. Paul accused Fauci of betraying the public's trust and withholding information from the earliest stages of the pandemic.

The journals also reveal Fauci's private reflections on his growing media profile, friendships with celebrities and numerous invitations to appear on television during the height of the health crisis.
