Hormuz Tanker Traffic Remains Low

Twenty-five vessels carrying commodities passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Thursday, while only two tankers transited the Strait of Hormuz, according to shipping data from Kpler.

Of the 25 vessels, 18 entered the Red Sea and seven sailed in the opposite direction. They included two very large crude carriers (VLCCs), one Suezmax tanker and five Aframax tankers.

Only two tankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Both were sailing in ballast and entering the waterway.

The figures do not include ships that may have been sailing with their transponders switched off.

In recent weeks, Iran and its Houthi allies have attacked tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb area. A drone attack on gas vessels at the Egyptian Mediterranean port of Damietta suggested that shipping through the Suez Canal could also be at risk.
