Jay Clayton Confirmed as New US Intelligence Chief

Bill Pulte, acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI), announced on Saturday that Jay Clayton will take office on Monday.

Republican senators confirmed his nomination this week despite opposition from Democrats, following a tense Senate confirmation hearing.

Clayton, who previously served as US attorney for the Southern District of New York, will oversee the operations of 18 US intelligence agencies.

He will replace Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned in June after a tenure marked by conflicts with Democrats in Congress, who accused her of advancing President Donald Trump's political agenda and spreading misleading claims about the presidential election.

During the confirmation process, Democrats also criticized Clayton for repeatedly refusing to state directly that Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden.
