DeepSeek Introduces Low-Cost V4-Flash AI Model

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has launched V4-Flash, a new artificial intelligence model that analysts say is among the industry's most cost-effective systems.

According to Artificial Analysis, V4-Flash delivers one of the lowest operating costs among leading AI models while offering performance comparable to several established competitors. DeepSeek says the model is more than 100 times cheaper to run than Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 under comparable benchmark conditions.

Reuters has also reported that the company is preparing for a potential initial public offering, although DeepSeek has not publicly confirmed its IPO plans.

The launch builds on the success of DeepSeek's R1 model, which attracted global attention in early 2025 after demonstrating advanced capabilities at significantly lower cost than many Western rivals, prompting investors to reassess spending across the AI sector.

Artificial Analysis estimates that evaluating V4-Flash on its benchmark suite costs about $0.03, compared with roughly $0.86 for Moonshot AI's Kimi K3, $1.86 for OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and $3.15 for Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.

On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, V4-Flash scored 50 points, matching Google's Gemini 3.6 Flash but trailing Moonshot's Kimi K3 and Anthropic's Claude models. DeepSeek is also developing a more powerful V4-Pro model, while Alibaba this week unveiled its flagship Qwen3.8-Max system.
