Pope Leo XIV to Visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru
Pope Leo XIV will travel to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from 6 to 17 November, the Vatican has announced. The trip will be a significant one for the head of the Catholic Church, who spent decades working as a missionary and bishop in Peru before being elected pope last year.
The itinerary includes stops in Uruguay from 6 to 8 November, Argentina from 8 to 11 November and Peru from 11 to 17 November.
Born in the United States, the pope is also a citizen of Peru. From 2015 to 2023, he served as bishop in the city of Chiclayo, which he will visit again during the trip, along with Lima, Cusco and Pucallpa. In Argentina, he will visit Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján, and in Uruguay, Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida.
The Vatican said further details of the itinerary would be released at a later date. The last papal visit to South America came in 2018, when Pope Francis traveled to Chile and Peru.
