US Intelligence Warns Russia Could Test NATO

US intelligence agencies have reassessed the risk that Russia could test NATO’s resolve with a limited attack, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Possible scenarios range from cyberattacks and the deployment of unmarked armed groups to a small-scale ground operation on NATO’s eastern flank.

According to the report, Russia could act between fall 2026 and 2029. While the likelihood of the most serious scenario remains low, intelligence assessments suggest that the risk will increase over time.

US officials say Moscow’s goal could be to divide NATO and test whether the alliance would invoke Article 5, its collective defense provision.

Separately, Lithuania has warned that Russia could use captured Ukrainian drones to attack critical infrastructure in the Baltic states.
